Shayla was born an animal lover, in fact she wanted to be a veterinarian, but instead she found her calling as a pet groomer.
Shayla attended grooming school in New Orleans where she enrolled as a full-time student, completing the course in just three months. After earning her grooming certificate Shayla began her career grooming cats and dogs in the grooming center at a New Orleans veterinarian clinic. Working in this busy environment gave her the chance to develop her grooming skills. During the next four years Shayla managed the grooming center and took on the role of training new groomers.
With all of this experience Shayla felt it was time to open her own grooming shop. She jumped at the chance to purchase Doggie’s House of Beauty, the grooming shop where her career began. Under her ownership Doggie’s House of Beauty thrived, and so did Shayla. She continued to develop her grooming and management skills and build a solid clientele, but all that changed in August 2005 when Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans and destroyed the building that housed her business.
Devastated but determined, Shayla and her family decided to move to Kuna, Idaho. Shayla quickly found a grooming position at Critter Clinic in Boise. Family circumstances called for a change in her work schedule, she needed more time at home to care for her loved ones. Friends told Shayla about the need for a groomer in the Kuna area, this got her thinking about opening a shop out of her home. Once permits were secured and construction completed Shayla’s Paw-Fection Pet Grooming opened for business.
An in-home business has not only served Shayla and her family well, but is an asset to the Kuna community. Her love for animals gives Shayla the motivation to continue providing animals with tender loving care, and great haircuts!

Jessica Pugmire
Jessica has been working at Shayla’s for about 5 years now. She started out as a bather. Shayla saw potential in her so she promoted her to General Manager. Jessica is Shayla’s right hand woman and keeps things flowing in the shop. She interacts with the customers when Shayla is unable to, she takes appointments, and fills in where needed! We love her and so will you!
Shelby Menard
Shelby is not only Shayla’s daughter but she is a wonderful part of this team! She has been around the grooming business since she was born so it was only right to have her be a part of her mom’s business. She took some time away to attend college, but when COVID hit she returned home and finished her schooling online while working with her mom. Shelby ties up a lot of loose ends around the shop whether that means she needs to fill in for a bather, take dogs in or out, or even clean up after dogs… she does it all! We love her and you will too!
Dublin Barker
Dublin has been apart of the team for 2 years now and has steadily learned and improved upon her skills to be help in any part of the shop. She helps improve and maintain the flow of the daily operations. Dublin is a huge team player and can handle any task or challenge that comes her way. We are so glad to have her apart of our team!
