Shayla Menard, Professional Groomer, 15 Years Experience
I've always known I wanted to work with animals, since I was very young. I started out wanting to be a vet but then over time things changed. After I moved from Texas to New Orleans, I heard about a grooming school and figured, why not? I signed up and completed the course going full time in 3 months. Although I finished this course in basic grooming, I really didn't get the real training until I was out on my own.
I began my career working for a vet in New Orleans which allowed me to build my skills and eventually ended up back where I had first learned to groom. This gave me the opportunity to become a manager and teach students over a 3 to 4 year period. Soon after this learning and teaching experience, the opportunity presented itself to purchased the shop where I had learned and worked in called, "Doggie's House of Beauty." I owned this shop for a few years until Hurricane Katrina came and destroyed the building.
At that time my family and I took the opportuity to move to Kuna. I procured a grooming postion at Critter Clinic at Five Mile and Ustick. But when I had my third child and my dad became ill, I decided to stay home to take care of both of them. My friends began to tell me Kuna was in need of a groomer, so I decided to start my own business here at home. This has allowed me to take care of my family and take care of a few dogs and cats when time allows. I really love all kinds and types of animals, just come see the variety I personally own. My love for animals gives me the motivation needed to keep me continuing to do what I love.
